UTCA’s Domestic T20 Cricket League from August 4
A pool of 90 players from men’s senior and U- 23 players to compete for 33 matches in 17 days
Chandigarh, UT Cricket Association (UTCA) is organising its domestic T20 from August 4 to August 20 at Cricket Stadium, Sector 16. While addressing a press conference held at UTCA office at stadium premises on Tuesday, UTCA’s President Sanjay Tandon said that a total of 90 players from six teams are competing in the Shahid Chandrashekhar Azad Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament. Apart from local players, two outstation IPL talents – Murugan Ashwin and Raghav Goyal are participating in the league. Rose Zone will be led by Manan Vohra, Rock Zone will be captained by Harnoor Pannu while Plaza Zone will be led by Sandeep Sharma. The captain of Terrace Zone is Bhagmender Lather, while the command of Sukhna Zone has been given to Mohd Arsalan Khan. Arjun Azad will be taking charge of Leisure Zone. Tandon informed that a total of 33 matches including two semifinals and a final would be played in a span of 17 days. Men’s seniors and under-23 players have been ranked in this tournament.
The tournament is being organized under the supervision of tournament chairman Daniel Banerjee as all the matches are being played at the same venue – Sector 16 Cricket Stadium. The first match will be played at 9.30 am followed by the second one at 1.30 pm. The tournament will be played as per the BCCI norms, which will be closely monitored by BCCI representatives. An Anti-corruption unit has also been formed to stop any kind of corruptive activities during the tournament.
Sanjay Tandon briefed the media that UTCA is excited for this yet another event after the huge success of Gully Cricket Tournament which was held in April. The tournament will be telecast on Fancode OTT platform to connect with the viewers sitting back home. Tandon said that the team jersey will be unveiled on August 3, while the newly built UTCA office at the stadium, association’s website and app will also be launched on August 4 before the tournament.
Tandon said that apart from the tournament, boys’ Under-19 and Under-16 competitions would also be continued. Boys U-19 is being held at Kaimbala while U-16 is being held at DAV School Sector 8 and GNPS Sector 36. Women’s U- 23 are being held at GMS Sector 19 while U-19 camp at GNPS.
Tandon said that UTCA will soon organize a women’s cricket tournament to promote girls’ cricket as the dates of the same will be announced soon.
