The first meeting of the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) was held today under the chairmanship of Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Punjab and Administrator Chandigarh in the presence of Chief Secretaries of Punjab, Haryana and Adviser to the Administrator.
The members of the UMTA have given their approval to the Comprehensive Mobility plan prepared by RITES. This will further lead in Preparation of Alternatives Analysis Report (AAR) & Detailed Project Report (DPR) – Phase-I MRTS Network (77 Km) for Chandigarh Tri-City’. Further it has been decided that to engage RITES for preparation of AAR and DPR.
The Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) is a unified platform for handling overall Mobility issues of tricity UMTA comprises Govt. of India, officials Chandigarh Administration, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab stakeholders to ensure coordination among various institutions and implementation of this mobility plan to improve the traffic situation in the city
