Sarul’s brilliance steers Rock Zone to register three-wicket thrilling win over Plaza Zone
Chandigarh: A splendid knock from Sarul Kanwar (89 balls of 63 balls) helped Rock Zone to register a thrilling three-wicket win over Plaza Zone at the UTCA Men’s Seniors Multi-Day Cricket Tournament being played at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Chasing the target of 208 runs in the fourth innings of the match, Rock Zone finished the show at the loss of seven wickets.
Earlier, Rock Zone was reduced to 130 runs against the total of Plaza Zone’s 121 which ensured them a lead of mere nine runs. Plaza Zone declared its second innings at 217/4 the loss of four wickets with the help of top scorer Tavleen Singh (70) followed by unbeaten Ayush Sikka (41) and Vaibhav Narang (40). Chasing down the target of 208, Rock Zone despite the solid start of 86/0 was forced to struggle during the final session of the match. The remarkable bowling spell from Kunal Mahajan (3/14) went in vain as Rock managed to struggle for a win and surpassed the given target in 39th over. Satish Bhardwaj was declared man of the match for taking eight wickets in the match.
Meanwhile, in another match played at GMSS School, Sector 26, Terrace Zone scored 179/6 in reply to Leisure Zone’s 263/5. Leisure Zone added another 99 runs to their overnight score of 164/3 before they declared their inning with the fine contributions from unbeaten Gaurav Puri (85) and Mayank Sidhu (62). In reply Ruchin (72) and Taranpreet Singh (35) helped Terrace Zone to pile up 179/6 before the day two stumps was declared..
