Congress will soon hold a big Valmiki convention in the state
• Hooda makes announcement in the meeting with the representatives of Valmiki Samaj
Chandigarh, June 2: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda has said Congress will soon organize a big Valmiki Sammelan in Haryana so that the voice of the society’s issues and representation can be raised.
Hooda was speaking in a meeting with the representatives of Valmiki Samaj. The representatives of Valmiki Sabhas from all the districts of the state and the interested people of the society were present in the meeting. On this occasion, Hooda discussed in detail about the issues and demands of the community.
He said the Valmiki Samaj has always been the backbone of the Congress. “Congress and SC society complement each other. Whenever it has distanced itself from the Samaj, the Congress has distanced itself from power. This society also had to bear the biggest brunt of Congress being away from power, because parties like BJP can never be well wishers of the deprived class,” he said.
Hooda said that he belongs to a family that fought against untouchability and caste discrimination. “My grandfather and father continuously agitated to remove caste discrimination from the society. My father Chaudhary Ranbir Singh Hooda got the opportunity to work in the Constituent Assembly with Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. That’s why the upliftment of the downtrodden is always a priority for me in terms of personal and party policies,” he stated.
“Congress always gives priority to the progress of scheduled castes. Congress believes that only a society that remains at the forefront in the field of education, makes progresses. Government schools were opened in every village and locality by the Congress government in Haryana to educate the children of SC, backward class and poor society including Valmiki. Scholarship scheme was started for 20 lakh children from 1st to 12th class. After this, arrangements were made for scholarship up to ₹ 14,000 per month in higher education as well,” he recounted.
“Similarly, about 4 lakh families were benefited under the scheme of free plots of 100 yards each for poor families. 11,000 sanitation workers were recruited directly. Many such schemes were launched to empower the society. In future too, when the Congress government is formed, all the welfare schemes will be restarted and the backlog of jobs will be filled,” he assured.
Haryana Congress State President Chaudhary Udaybhan was also specially present in the meeting. He said that in the state-level program organized on the birth anniversary of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, in Sonipat, the Congress had told about its plans and policies to give representation to the society.
He said in the coming days, by holding a big state-level convention of the society, the Congress will present a detailed roadmap for the progress of the deprived sections. “Today, both the national president and the state president of the Congress come from the Dalit community. It is clear from this that Congress has always been positive on the representation of SC community. Whereas on the other hand BJP has always discriminated against the scheduled castes. By privatizing all institutions and abolishing jobs, BJP has indirectly abolished the reservation of the society. Constitutional values are constantly being targeted by the present government,” he said.
