450 Anganwadi Centres are functional in peripheral areas of U.T., Chandigarh. There are total 41683 children in the age of 0mth to 6yrs, 3122 Pregnant Women and 3170 Lactating Mothers are enrolled at Anganwadi Centers under Mission Saksham Anganwadi, POSHAN 2.0 programme. At Anganwadi Centers various services are being provided such as nutritional meals, preschool education, primary healthcare, immunization, health check-up and referral services to children under 6 years of age and their mothers.

Non-formal preschool education is one of the important component under Mission Saksham Anganwadi, POSHAN 2.0 programme to encourage the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of a child. Total 7802 no. of children 3 to 6 yrs of age are getting preschool education at Anganwadi Centres.

Dr. Palika Arora, PCS, Director Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration informed that, for providing better preschool education & to gear up the process of strengthening the Anganwadi Services, Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration collaborated with STATE COUNCIL OF EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH AND TRAINING (SCERT).

SCERT is conducting workshop cum training programme for all Anganwadi workers. The program is being initiated in 5 batches from 24th April. 97 No. of Anganwadi Workers were covered in First batch which held from 24th April to 26th April at SCERT training Centre at GMHS, Sector- 48. The participants were oriented about the Learning Outcomes for children between 3 to 6 years. The Learning Teaching material of Jadu ka Pitara was used by Resource Persons and participants while conducting activities for achieving desired Learning Outcome. The participants were encouraged to use low cost Learning Teaching Material for making their own Jadu ka Pitaras at their centres.

​Specific curriculum on Early Childhood Care Education in Hindi language will be implemented in all Anganwadi Centre in U.T., Chandigarh which is prepared by SCERT. Facilitation for implementation of the same at Anganwadi Centres will be ensured by SCERT.
