Department of Otolaryngology and Head Neck surgery (ENT) in collaboration with NRI NGO organised medical camp
The Department of Otolaryngology and Head Neck surgery (ENT) in collaboration with NRI NGO attended one medical camp organised by ‘IBADAT’ NGO at Kurali for screening for Head and Neck Cancer. This camp was inaugurated by Dr Balraj Bedi (MSW) retired PGI and director of IBADAT, NGO Kurali.
The medical team for this camp had Prof. Jaimanti Bakshi, Unit Head II , ENT PGI MER, Dr Dharamvir, Assistant professor, Audiology and Speech Therapy Unit of ENT,Dr (Lt Col) Vikas Sharma, Dr Prazwal Shrestha,Dr Aakriti and Dr Shivam Saxena, along with Dr Saraswati Gupta, Executive Director, NGO called National Rehabilitation Institute (NRI).
This NGO is working with ENT department PGIMER, Chandigarh for Head and Neck cancer screening program. In this camp, 87 patients were examined in this camp mainly for head and neck cancer but only 3 patients had suspected throat and neck cancers. These patients were called to PGI ENT OPD for further checkup and treatment.
Other patients had CSOM, SOM, Chronic sinusitis, Allergic Rhinitis, Misarticulation problems, 1 patient with vocal cord palsy, 6 patients with tinnitus, 10 patients with hearing loss due to various causes. All these patients were advised treatment at PGIMER Chandigarh. Awareness about the causes, symptoms and early detection of head and neck cancer was also given to the patients who attended this medical camp.
