Australian cricketers of Chandigarh origin – Soni brothers strives to give city boys an international exposure
Ten teams are participating in the American Premier T20 League to be held in Florida this year in December
Chandigarh, Born and brought up in Chandigarh, former cricketer and currently based in Sydney entrepreneur Munish Soni has announced the launch of a talent search program in Chandigarh for his Australian franchise team – ‘Premier Aussies’. Munish Soni along with his brother Amit Soni has bought a franchise Premier Aussies for Australia which will be playing at ‘American Premier T20 League’ to be organized by the USA Cricket Board on the lines of IPL. Soni brothers, who came to Chandigarh recently, have announced this program to give a chance to some talents from their hometown Chandigarh with their inclusion in the Australian team.
Addressing a press conference organized at Chandigarh Press Club, Munish Soni and Amit Soni said that this is the second season of USA Cricket Board in this T20 league which will be organized in Florida in December 2023 this year. Apart from the host USA, teams from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Pakistan, West Indies, England, India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are also participating in it. The last league was held on 13 September 2021.
Munish Soni, who played cricket with Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh in the 90s and learned the game from late Vijender Jain (founder of Royal Cricket Club), Surinder Baiji, Antar Atma Singh and University Coach Rajinder Thaman, said that India has the stronghold of cricket and that is the reason why he is looking for support staff including some of his players from India. He said that after learning cricket from Chandigarh, now it’s time to return something back to Chandigarh and with this intention they are all set to give international exposure to the talents of Chandigarh through this programme.
Present on the occasion, former Ranji cricketers from Haryana and noted coaches Surendra Baiji and Antar Atma Singh appreciated the efforts of the Soni brothers and said this league will create more enthusiasm among the local players.
