Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker’s XI beat Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker’s XI by 95 runs

This weekend exhibition match was organized by UT Cricket Association and Chandigarh Police under the aegis of Gully Cricket Tournament.

 

CHANDIGARH: An unbeaten knock by Gurmeet Singh steered Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker’s XI to beat Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker’s XI by 95 runs in a weekend exhibition match being played under the  aegis of  Gully Cricket Tournament being organized by UT Cricket Association (UTCA) and Chandigarh Police. Organised at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium, Punjab won the toss and decided to bat first. Opener Gurmeet Singh dominated from the first delivery which continued with his reign till the last ball of the inningGurmeet scored 150 runs off  53 balls with the help of 12 sixes and 14 boundaries. At the other end, Amansher Singh, who remained unbeaten on 54 off 27 balls, laid a strong foundation for Punjab to post 235 for two. Amolak Singh scored 14 while Amarpal Singh scored 1 run. For Haryana, Bhavya Bishnoi and Chiranjeev Rao took one wicket each.

 

In reply, Haryana too got off to a solid start with his opener Bhavya Bishnoi scoring 72 off 38 balls. The accerleate the pace, he fails to get the support from other end as wickets kept falling. Haryana was restricted to 140/4 in stipulated 15 overs. Chiranjeev Rao contributed 12 while Shishpal Singh added 16 runs. Rajesh Nagar scored 19 runs. Gyan Chand Gupta (1) and Amarjit Dandha (4) remained unbeaten.

 

Earlier, in the presence of UTCA President Sanjay Tandon, former Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister Jairam Thakur settled the toss between the both teams. Haryana’s Governor Bandaru Dattatreya honored the winning and runner-up teams. Chandigarh Police SSP Kanwardeep Kaur and Chandigarh Administration’s Advisor Dharampal and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

Around 2500 budding  cricketers from more than 200 teams of Chandigarh are participating in the street cricket tournament, whose final match will be held on 23rd April. In this series, exhibition matches are being organized every weekend, wherein a  match between UTCA and UT Administration will be played on Sunday.
