Report of G20 and various events & activities undertaken by PGGCG-42, Chandigarh.
Assuming the G20 presidency in December 2022, India has begun its one year journey with a unique outreach campaign in an effort to involve the youth of the country. With the expectation that India’s G20 Presidency should touch every student across all the departments, PGGCG-42, Chandigarh has undertaken a range of events and activities on G20 themes spread across the year. Under the direction of Principal Prof. Nisha Aggarwal and guidance of the Nodal Officer, Prof Sudhir Hindwan and his team of faculty members Dr Gurjinder Singh,Ms.Shaktee Pathak, Dr.Rashmi Kohli, Dr.Sumit Dabhi and Dr.Shagun Sharma organized various events ( 14 events only during last 2 months and still many are linned up ) in the institution. The students have and will be given an opportunity to bring in new ideas and perspectives to G20-related topics throughout the year. This would help to educate and sensitize the students about G20 and its significance under India’s presidency. The activities included quiz competitions, essay writing competition, painting and debating competitions at various level (intra college as well as inter college).
The Quiz competition held by the Department of Political Science had questions that were designed to increase awareness about G-20 and its importance in promoting peace and harmony. The main objective of the quiz competition included creating awareness about the historical background of the Summit, developing knowledge of the countries and to encourage students to relate to different parameters of G-20. To enhance the concept and practice of urban governance, teaching, research etc. an online Essay writing competition was also held on the topic ‘The Tradition of Local Self Government in India’by the Department of Economics. The Fine Arts Department held a poster making competition, where the students participated enthusiastically. They designed colourful posters conveying digital service or e-government service which is getting prioritize by governments worldwide. Yoga: an idea by our Honorable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is now a global phenomenon. The students undertook the yoga activity to spread a wider awareness. The echo of patriotic songs and to feel proud of one’s nation and its rich culture was undertaken by the Department of Music.In a world facing multiple challenges and rising geopolitical tensions, with the theme ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future, India is all set to promote the idea of Vasudev Kutumbakam and the same was topic of declamation held by the Department of English. To engage young minds and to make them comprehend the relevance of G20 a debate competition was held by the Department of Political Science. Through these events/activities the students are encouraged to be in alignment with ‘truly a people’s G20 movement ‘and to disseminate information about India’s G20 presidency to more and more people.
