Department of Education organized a lecture cum discussion on the ‘Meaning of Research’ by Prof. Krishna Kumar, former director of the National Council of Research and Training (NCERT). The talk took place in the department of Education at 11:30 a.m. The session was arranged to throw insightful observations on the idea of research. Prof. Krishna Kumar commenced the session by addressing the students and the scholars on the current understanding of the term ‘research’. The relationship between research and knowledge was also discussed.
He delved into the idea of research and the ways in which the meaningful research could be carried. He focused on the three active elements of creating the meaningful research which were: Habits, Norms, and the Guide. The emphasis was laid upon the contextual meaning of research and the stages involved in fulfilling the purpose of the research. The four stages were mentioned as: Satisfaction, Leading onto something else, Inducting one in an intellectual community, and ultimately reinforcing the habit.
The last part of the talk was dedicated to the diverse discussion in which the scholars, students, and the faculty of education actively participated. The session was a huge success and left the audience with an informative experience.
