As part of the ‘Panjab University G-20 Youth Fortnight Celebrations, the Department of Political Science in collaboration with the Chief Electoral Officer, U.T. Chandigarh, Department of Public Administration and the Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, Panjab University organised an inter-departmental quiz competition, followed by an interactive session on ‘Electoral Literacy’ at the department conference hall.
The quiz was based on the same theme of ‘Electoral Literacy’. Many questions that featured in the quiz alluded to the various form numbers and procedures that relate to voter registration, Model code of conduct, and voter vigilance among others. The top 5 performers were awarded with certificates and prizes. Tanya Ahuja from the department of Public Administration bagged the first position in the quiz, while the 2nd prize was shared by the students of M.A. 1st year, Mohammad Ali and Aditya Musafir from the Department of Political Science. The 4th Ankita Nao (M.A. 2nd year) and 5th position shared by Stanzin Namgial (M.A. 1st year) from Department of Public Administration and Varnika Semwal (M.A. 1st year) from the Political Science respectively.
The quiz was followed by an interactive session that was supervised by Jiten Kumar and Shankar Singh, on the behalf of the Election Commission, Chandigarh. Their insightful session focused on raising awareness among the young prospective voters from the institution and talked about all the procedures and the innovative initiatives undertaken by the Election Commission of India to facilitate voter registration and filing of complaints against Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations. These include various easy to use web portals and user-friendly mobile apps. The resource persons encouraged everyone present to register for vote and cast their electoral right in the next election.
The event was also graced by the members of the department faculty and Prof. Manish Sharma, faculty, department of Gandhian and Peace Studies. The students went away from the event with the enthusiasm and intent of registering for vote and making it count in the next elections.
