Jan Bhagidari Events held around First G20 International Financial Architecture (IFA) Working Group Meeting, by Reserve Bank of India, in Chandigarh
It is a matter of pride that Chandigarh is hosting the main G20 event and Reserve Bank of India is organising several events to engage with and familiarize the citizens of Chandigarh about the relevance of G20 especially under India’s Presidency.
2. The G20, or Group of Twenty, is an international forum made up of 19 countries and the European Union that together represent around 85% of the global GDP. The G20 countries include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union.
3. The Reserve Bank of India contributes to the G20 Finance Track, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance. G20 Finance Track discusses global macroeconomic issues through its meetings of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, their Deputies and various working group meetings.
4. As Chandigarh gets ready to host the G20 meeting next week, Reserve Bank of India, Chandigarh Regional Office organised several events under the “Jan Bhagidari Abhiyan” on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
5. The series of events took off with a ‘Mini Marathon’, organised in association with the Indian Army’s Western Command, Chandimandir. It was flagged off by Regional Director, RBI, Chandigarh. The ‘Mini Marathon’ witnessed participation from more than 500 persons comprising army personnel and their family members. Prizes were distributed in various categories. The gathering was briefed about the importance of India assuming G20 presidency and passed on the message of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – One Earth · One Family One Future.
6. A tree planation drive was organised at GMHS and GMSSS, Sector 28, Chandigarh. About 100 medicinal plants of different varieties like Shatavari, Asafoetida, Tej Patta, Brahmi, etc. were planted in the Herbal Garden by students and teachers.
7. A Student Connect programme was organised for the students of the GGDSD College, Sector 32, Chandigarh on currency management. The students were briefed about features of Indian currency note, logistics involved, RBI’s mission of providing adequate supply of clean and genuine notes/coins and hassle-free exchange of soiled/mutilated notes and included a quiz on G20/currency related matters.
8. A skit was organised in Sector 17 Chandigarh emphasizing the importance of Swachhata for the members of public. It highlighted on easily amendable small habits of everyday life, such as carelessly throwing away food peels, paper, plastic etc. in public places, not segregating dry and wet waste or carelessness in or around home. Issues like allowing dirty/clean water to stagnate etc. were raised which can be rectified with a little care. The usefulness of carpooling was depicted to as a means to reducing the pollution.
