Dietetics day celebrated at PGIMER
Indian dietetics day is celebrated throughout India since the year 2014 on 10th January every year. The purpose of this event is to raise public awareness and impart nutrition knowledge. This time, theme for dietetics day 2023 is Mighty millets & 3As (Availability, Accessibility & Affordability) for sustainable development which co-insides with the UN theme of declaring 2023 as International year of millets.
On this occasion team Dietetics from Department of Dietetics, PGIMER, under the leadership of Dr. Nancy Sahni; Chief Dietician & Head, organised a work shop on ‘Millet Magic’ which included lectures on Nutraceutical properties of millets, recipe demonstration by expert chefs Mr. Vikas Chawla Director, CORE Hospitality Solution, Chd., Ashok Kumar and Viney Kumar- CIHM sector -42 Chandigarh. It was followed by organoleptic evaluation by panel of experts comprising of chief guest of the day Professor Vipin Kaushal, head Hospital Administration, PGI , Hospital administration faculty, Community medicine faculty and Principal NINE. Millet soup was served to all private ward patients as well as to the audience along with millet porridge.
Dietetics department, PGI, intends to include millets in patients therapeutic diets (especially for diabetics and CVD patients). Therefore this program was conducted today for spreading millet awareness as well as teaching our kitchen staff in cooking methodology of millets and also sensitising and teaching the audience about the therapeutic effects of consuming millets to prevent diabetes, blood pressure, high cholesterol and to boost up immunity as well help them to practically learn the interesting ways to make various tasty recipes.
