7th National workshop on health systems strengthening

Day 4 of the 7th National workshop on health systems strengthening at Department of Community medicine and School of Public Health,PGIMER Chandigarh started successfully with the reflections from the previous day. The morning session on effective communication was chaired by Dr Bhavneet Bharti, Director AIMS, Mohali. The session comprised of teaching skills on how to break bad news, make shared decision making, managing angry situation and general principles of communication. Another important session comprised of administrative communication, and structural dynamics approach for administrators was taken by the faculty members of the departments of Hospital Administration at PGIMER.
After lunch, the session was taken by Ms Shyamashree Das, program officer at Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on neglected tropical disease in which she discussed about the status of Kala Azar and lymphatic filariasis in India. She focused on how to stop the spread of infection by interrupting transmission by Mas Drug Administration (MDA) and on how to reduce the suffering caused by the disease using Morbidity Management and Disability Prevention (MMDP).Dr Parag Bhamare, associate director, maternal and child health division at JHPIEGO talked about “Patient Safety and Quality of Care in context to service provision, Birth companion & Respectul Maternity Care.’ He mentioned that both Dakshata and Manyata are forrunners for providing quality services in public and private sector. Dr Sandul Yasobant, Technical Officer, Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar talked about “One Health i.e. interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure optimal health for all”.
After tea, Dr JN Srivastava took the session on ensuring availability of drugs in public health facilities through supply chain management system, while Dr Ajay Trakroo discussed about evidence based planning in health systems strengthening. The day’s session ended with the participants presentation of their experiences in public health domain.
