What in hole in heart and how it affects growth of child :-
Hole in heart (ASD) leads to swelling of heart chambers and increase in pressure of lungs. This leads to recurrent chest infections in the child with poor weight gain and growth retardation.
Child with above symptoms should be taken to specialist doctor and heart checkup should be done.
If treated early child can have normal life like any other child.
How to avoid surgery in child with hole in heart :-
Children with small hole heart with minimal symptoms can be followed with repeat echo tests. Small holes in young children can close with time and may not require surgery.
