UIPS, PU: Ranked 3 in the NIRF Ranking  (Pharmacy)

The University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, has been ranked number 3 among the Pharmacy institutions across the Nation in the 7th edition of India Rankings 2022 under National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) organized by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Prof Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson, UIPS said that “The Institute is consistently bagging second and third ranks since the inception of the ranking framework in 2016. This coveted achievement of UIPS is attributed to its rich heritage, globally acclaimed faculty, state-of-the-art infrastructure, great teamwork and excellent research outcomes. The high prowess in publications; high quality research output in terms of patents, technology-transfers to industry and grants; academics and collaborative outputs are the main strengths of UIPS”.

She said “The award yet again testifies and reiterates the excellent academic and research standards maintained by UIPS. Despite the fact that UIPS comes under a state university, in comparison to the centrally-funded institutes who get crores of funding for R&D, infrastructure etc., UIPS has been able to maintain top rank”. She also added that in this competitive world, where a host of private institutes are coming up across the nation, UIPS has proudly maintained its ranking”.

In context to the overall ranking of the Panjab University, Prof Renu Vig, DUI said that ” The Overall score of University has improved from 50.31 in 2021 to 51.23 in 2022. However the score in Perception has decreased which may be one of the reason for change in rank”.

Whereas, Prof Sudhir Kumar, Director, Research and Development Cell said that “The overall picture of PU’s NIRF – ranking is not disheartening, the quintessential resilience of Academic and Research Ecosystem of PU , despite  the impact of the negative factors, did  not let it slip down the counter”.

He also added that apart from other factors, the continuing reluctance to provide the required data to the IQAC on the part of some departments may also have a bearing on having a supposedly stagnant NIRF ranking this year. It is hoped that PU would fare considerably better in the list of NIRF rankings next year.
