International Public HealthManagement Development Program Kick-starts at PGIMER
A 6-day InternationalPublic Health Management Development Program (IPHMDP)specially designed for Senior officialsfrom Nepal Medical Association will be held at Hotel Parkview, Sector 24Chandigarh from 20th -25th June 2022. The program, 13th in its series since 2016, will be organized by the Department of Community Medicine &School of Public Health, PGIMER. This flagship program caters to building theleadership and management capacity of middle and senior-level managers of 161countries in Asia, Africa, East Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean as well asPacific and Small Island countries. The program has been institutionalized bythe Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India under the IndianTechnical Economic Corporation (ITEC) scheme. This program has trained around,700 + participants from 70 + countries over the last 6 years. This’first of its kind’ program sponsored by MEA aims to enhance the understandingof senior-level professionals from the Nepal Medical Association about best practicesof Public Health in India, said DrSonuGoel, Director of IPHMDP and Professor inPGIMER Chandigarh. He briefed that the program will also build the capacity of delegates in designing, implementing,monitoring, and evaluating program operations in context of their respectivecountries and equip them with management and leadership skills especially inchallenging situations like COVID19, Monkeypoxetc Duringthe 6-day program, senior professors and program managers who are alsospecialists in diverse departments like ENT, emergency medicine, obstetrics andgynecology, telemedicine, orthopedics, medicine, pediatrics, communitymedicine, anesthesia, and oral health will be participating. The program shallbe taught by eminent faculty including Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, Former Director,IIHMR, and National Health System Resource Centre (NHSRC) New Delhi; Maj. Gen.Prof AtulKotwal, Executive Director, NHSRC; and Prof. RajniBagga, FormerProfessor, NIHFW, New Delhi. A special bilateral meeting is also planned with Dr.LochanKarki, President of Nepal Medical Association, who is leading thedelegation with Presidents of Indian Medical Association Punjab and Chandigarh;President, SIPHER, Chandigarh; eminent experts from NHSRC, IIHMR and NIHFW, thethink tanks of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GOI with an aim tostrengthen the medical care in Nepal and India and building and sustaining therelationships between both countries. Theprogram will be delivered through various learning methodologies like casestudies, management games, quizzes, role plays, videos, mobile applications,etc. Besides, they shall be visiting various departments in PGIMER and Shimla(field trip) to witness various levels of health care facilities. During theprogram, participants will also beexposed to Indian culture through the practice of Yoga, meditation, bhangra,and laughter sessions for reenergizing and learning Indian cultural practices,said DrKritikaUpadhyay, Program Coordinator. Apart from this, a cultural eventis planned for 23rd June where participants can informally interact with eachother for peer learning and networking for future endeavors, she said. After theprogram, the delegation will make an Action Plan for their Country based on thelearning of the program which will be followed up by the program organizerswhen they will send the Action Plan Implementation Report after 3 months of theprogram.
