PRESS RELEASE Summer workshop for children kicks off at Kalagram CHANDIGARH, June 10 The annual summer workshop for children organised by the North Zone Culture Centre (NZCC), Ministry of Culture, Government of India, kicked off at Kalagram (Chandigarh) here today. Hundreds of children from various parts of the tricity, their parents and teachers attended the inaugural ceremony. This was the first workshop organised by the NZCC after a hiatus of more than two years post the Covid-19 pandemic era during which all art and cultural activities remained suspended in the tricity and elsewhere in the country. The Summer Workshop was conceptualised by the NZCC with a view to offering a platform to school children and inculcate among them the spirit to learn various genres of art, theatre, folk dances and painting, et al. Originally designed for slum children of tricity, it was later extended to all categories of children after getting a humongous response from the participating beneficiaries. Bhangra/ Jindua dances Bhangra/ Jindua dances workshop will be conducted under the stewardship of Pritpal Singh Sodhi, Jatinder Singh and Gurpreet Singh Dholi, well known faces in the field. Children will get an opportunity to learn the subtle nuances of various prominent folk dances of Punjab. Gidha/ Luddi dances Children would have the Godsend opportunity to learn other prominent folk dances of Punjab – Gidha/ Luddi, performed by artistes in their traditional attire on joyous occasions. This segment will be conducted by Harinder Pal Singh, Rajni and Kartar Singh Dholi, who will share their experiences and expertise with the participants. Painting The NZCC has brought in this genre, painting to be precise, this time around, to be conducted under the watch of Bharti Vandna and Rishav Attari. These acclaimed artists would dole out essential tips to the participants on how to master the art of painting an inanimate figure and bring it to life through a brush and paint.
Theatre
The theatre workshop, which would be conducted under the guidance of theatre icon
Rajni Bajaj and Dr Gurtej Singh, the enthusiasts at the workshop would have a great
learning experience in the genre and mastering the intricate art of theatrics.
The officer in charge of the workshops, Mr Rajesh Bakshi, said in a statement “The
workshops have been divided into two segments – morning and evening. While the
theatre and painting workshops will be conducted from 8 to 10 in the morning, folk
dances workshop at 4.30 to 6.30 pm in the evening, daily. For free entry to the
