National Achievement Survey (2021)
National Achievement Survey is a national representative survey that provides the system level reflection on effectiveness of school education. National Achievement Survey (NAS) was conducted throughout the country on the same day i.e. 12th November, 2021 for classes 3, 5, 8 & 10 by CBSE in collaboration with MoE. The main objective of the survey was to obtain information about the learning achievement of students of classes 3, 5, 8 & 10. The focus of NAS 2021 was competency based assessment and identification of learning loss post pandemic.
District Report Card has been released for all States/UTs by Ministry of Education on 25th May, 2022. In U.T., Chandigarh, NAS was conducted in 106 Govt., Govt. Aided & Private schools wherein 5726 students of class 3, 5, 8 & 10 appeared. This survey was based on learning outcomes developed by NCERT/CBSE in collaboration with MoE.
A comparative analysis of the scores of all UTs reveals that the U.T. of Chandigarh has secured Top ranking in all the subjects (except in EVS in class 3 & 5-UT Chandigarh got 2nd position) in classes 3rd & 5th for which NAS was conducted viz. 3 and 5. As per scaled score, out of 500, U.T., Chandigarh got 1st position in class 3 with the score of 335 in language & 311 in Maths , 2nd position in EVS with the score of 313 . In class 5th , U.T., Chandigarh secured 1st position with the scaled score of 326 in language & 295 in Maths and 2nd position in EVS with the score of 293.
The performance of Chandigarh has improved over the previous NAS for classes 8th & 10th. Chandigarh has been ranked 1st position amongst all UTs in class 8th in all the subjects i.e. 334 in language, 285 in Maths, 285 in Science, 287 in Social Science. Similarly, in class 10th, Chandigarh has scored 290 in Modern Indian Language, 261 in Mathematics, 260 in Science, 287 in Social Science and 345 in English. Average score of U.T., Chandigarh is higher than the National average in all classes and subjects.
This achievement is attributed to the strenuous efforts made by all the officers of the Department of School Education. The teachers worked tirelessly even during the pandemic for improving the quality of Learning /Teaching by holding training sessions, online teaching, workshops, distribution of material, assessment of learning outcomes through mock tests. Special focus was given on low learning outcomes for which worksheets/question banks, remedial teaching etc. were curated by the subject teachers for different classes.
