PU DLIS celebrated International Museum Day
The Department of Library and Information Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated International Museum Day 2022 today on 18.05.2022. Every year International Museum Day (IMD) is organized on 18th May. The Theme of the event was “The Power of Museums”. The theme focuses on exploring the power of museums to achieve sustainability, to innovate on digitalization and accessibility, and the power of community building through education.
The event commenced with a brief introduction, history and significance about this day. Dr. Shiv Kumar, Chairperson of the department initiated the event. All the faculty members of the department presented their views on the relevance of museums in the society. They emphasized that museums collect, preserve, interpret, and display objects of artistic, cultural, or scientific significance for the education of the public. Museums help to preserve and promote our cultural heritage. Students took part in various activities and presented the information on significant museums in different states and UTs of India like Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir and shared their viewpoints regarding sustaining the museums in the future through innovative solutions. Overall, the event was fruitful with proactive participation of students, research scholars and the faculty members.
