ENACTUS TEAM OF PANJAB UNIVERSITY, COLGATE-PALMOLIVE & DIR-INDIA CONDUCTS WORKSHOP TO PROMOTE DENTAL HEALTHCARE AND ‘MYTHARCHE’, SERIES IN JANTA COLONY, NAYAGAON
Enactus is an international Not Profit Organization, with base in over 35 countries and motto of “Head for business, heart for the world and hand for service”. Team Enactus, Panjab University has been working since a decade in initiating service with cause above self.
Dental and oral health is an essential part of overall health and well-being. Poor oral hygiene can significantly lead to dental cavities, gum diseases and even systemic diseases. Good oral health prevents many diseases and information on this will improve overall dental health in the community, averred Prof. Seema Kapoor, Faculty Advisor of Enactus team.
To advocate dental healthcare, Enactus team along with Developing Indigenous Resources-India conducted a workshop highlighting the importance of everyday practices that avoids dental problems amongst the underprivileged community. This event is sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive OQ Program, Meesha, Vice President of Enactus team.
The 1-hour long event included the address of Dr. Rajni and Dr.Shipra, Public Health Doctor. It was an interactive session amongst the audience, teaching simple methods to maintain oral hygiene. DIR medical team, health promoters conduct regular committee meetings on oral hygiene in the slums of Janta and Safeda colonies. A theme-based theatrical stage play was conducted by Hargobind, Niharika and Vaibhav, members of Drama Team of Panjab University to pronounce the cause. An informative presentation was also delivered to the audience, comprising of all age groups & spectrum of genders on why & how to take care of dental health, told Prof. Kapoor.
In addition to oral hygiene, the topic on menstual health and hygiene was addressed by Dr.Asha Katoch, CEO, DIR-Indua. This was the 3rd iconseccutjve workshop series under ‘MythArche-Transfusing NexGen Perspective’, initiated by Enactus team, DIR-India and Versatile Group, Ludhiana. Dr. Asha Katoch presented an interactive session promoting menstrual hygiene and cloth-based reusable sanitary napkins in place of conventionally available plastic-based napkins. She emphasized on the impirtance of education and awareness on menstruation amongst menstuators.
The event concluded with the Enactus team distributing the dental kits sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive, which was a small but significant step towards creating a healthier society. With the spirit of spreading the message far and beyond, team is highly motivated and is prepared to achieve their goals diligently.
The event was handled by Enactus members: Meesha, Samarth, Mridul, Inayat, Tushar, Aditya, Aftab and DIR-India staff. Jaidev and Parv, members of Tasveerbaji club of SSBUICET participated and took care of the photography of the event.
