L’Orientale University (Naples) and Panjab University (Chandigarh) today collaborated with an online event to promote the cause of language and communications. The ‘Hindi Club’ of L’Orientale University (Naples) invited Dr.Bhavneet Bhatti, Assistant Professor, School of Communication Studies, Panjab University to deliver a special lecture (online mode) as a part of their foreign scholar lecture series.
Dr.Bhatti spoke on the topic of ‘Language Hybridization’ with special emphasis on the language hybrid ‘Hinglish’ and its use in the Indian Mass Media Content. She drew theoretical foundations to the concept of language Hybridization with concepts of linguistic relativity and linguistic determinism. She also discussed the analysis of use of Hinglish in Indian News Media content and in Advertising Campaigns. She also discussed the reasons for use of language hybrids as better reach and market strategy and criticism of the phenomenon of language hybrids.
Dr. Stefania Cavaliere, Associate Professor of Hindi Language and Literature, Department of Asian, African and Mediterranean Studies, University of Naples L’Orientale along with Dr. Gurmeet Singh, ICCR Visiting Professor at Italy were the hosts of the programme. The online event was joined by faculty, students and scholars from Italy and India.
