Celebration of International Women’s Day

Chandigarh, 10th March, 2022: Health Department, U.T., Chandigarh celebrated International Women’s Day today at Auditorium, Government Multi specialty Hospital, Sector 16 under the leadership of Dr. Suman Singh, Director Health & Family Welfare cum Mission Director – National Health Mission, U.T., Chandigarh.

The Chief Guest of the event Dr. Gurdeep Kaur, Ex- Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, GMSH -16 appreciated and acknowledged the contribution made by the female doctors and field staffs for providing the quality health services to the pregnant women and in bringing U.T. Chandigarh at the national platform under the supervision of the Senior Medical Officer / Medical Officer Incharge of the various health facilities.

For giving special honors and also to motivate the stakeholders for giving good performances in future, the HOD’s of the various departments and Programme Officers were invited.

A presentation of the First Women Doctors of Indian Medical History in various specializations was given to encourage and motivate the women of Health Department.

On the eve of International Women’s week celebration, the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan was also celebrated on 9th March in order to provide comprehensive Antenatal services (ANC) to pregnant female (2nd and 3rd trimester) under one roof. Special Diet awareness drive was done in coordination with the Department of Dietetics, GMSH 16 and refreshments along with “Protein Powder” supplements were provided to the pregnant women for motivating them to continue having good nutritious diet during pregnancy and lactation period thereby preventing anemia.

International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The women’s day has been celebrated for well over a century; with the first one in 1911. Theme for International Women’s Day 2022 is Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow. The day marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements for women’s equality.
