Teachers delegation met Sanjay Tandon
Chandigarh, A delegation of college teachers from Government and Government Aided Colleges in Chandigarh met Ex president, Chandigarh Sanjay Tandon on Thursday under the leadership of Dr Ajay Sharma, Principal, GGDSD College, Chandigarh. The teachers submitted a representation for the grant of UGC Seventh pay commission and other retirement benefit on the pattern of other Union Territories of the country. Manoj Kumar, General Secretary of Chandigarh Govt College Teachers Association informed that recent Judgments in Punjab and Haryana High court clearly state that all the Higher Education Institutions in Chandigarh are fully funded by Central Government and thereby the Punjab Service rules are inapplicable on the Teachers and other Academic Staff working in these colleges. Therefore these teachers should be given these benefits on the pattern of Central government. Dr Suttapa, Member of the Governing council of DAV Collegeinsisted for immediate implementation of UGC seventh pay scales stating that all the Union Territories in India except Chandigarh have already implemented these scales due since 1.1.2016. Further, the implementation of these judgments will lessen the litigation pending in various courts. At present 200 college teachers are fighting in court for the grant of these benefits.
Sanjay Tandon said that teachers in Chandigarh have helped in making Chandigarh an academic hub. He gave a patient hearing to the issues raised by delegation and assured of all possible help in getting them their legitimate dues.
