Chandigarh, 8 February – President, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, Kumari Selja said that the condition of the state has become worse in terms of employment. Neither the poor daily wage earners were getting employment, nor were people getting job opportunities after completing their education. The condition of the state was much worse than the average condition of the country in case of non-availability of work on demand under MGNREGA. Haryana has reached first place among small states for not providing employment.
In a statement issued to the media, Kumari Selja said that the reports released by the Union Ministry of Rural Development were enough to expose the BJP-JJP alliance government in the state. According to this report, last year 11.6 crore people in the country demanded work under MGNREGA, but 16.3 percent people did not get work. She said that if the overall situation of the states that do not provide employment was looked, then Gujarat, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana were on the first four positions. All these four states were BJP ruled states. In Haryana, 6.52 lakh people demanded work from the state government under MGNREGA, but 1.34 lakh people did not get work. Their number in the state was 20.7 percent as against the national average of 16.3 for people who were not getting work. She said that people working in MGNREGA were only those people, who maintain their livelihood from daily wages. This shows that due to wrong policies of BJP-JJP government, poor section of the state was suffering a lot, said Kumari Selja.
Kumari Selja said that MGNREGA was a life-saving scheme for the working people living in rural areas, but now under the conspiracy, the central government was cutting its budget by 25 percent. People were already suffering without the cuts in the budget of MGNREGA, whereas after the implementation of this cut after April 1, the condition of the hard-working families will become even worse. She said that earlier the report of Center for Monitoring of Indian Economy (CMIE) had revealed that one out of every three graduates in the state was unemployed. Whereas, the report of CMIE had been consistently declaring Haryana at the top in terms of unemployment. Kumari Selja blamed the wrong policies of the state government for the declining employment opportunities in the state.
