Prof. Babita Ghai from Deptt. of Anaesthesia brings more laurels with prestigious ‘ISA Presidential Award’ for Academic Excellence

Dr Babita Ghai, Professor in Anaesthesia and Consultant Pain Clinic at PGIMER brought more laurels by adding another feather to her already accomplished profile as she was conferred with the distinct honour of “ISA Presidential Award” for Academic Excellence by Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA).

The award that included a certificate and a medal, was presented to Dr Babita Ghai at 56th Annual Conference of Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) held at Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The award is one of the highest awards of ISA and is conferred after very tough scrutiny and assessment of CV.

Earlier a fortnight ago, Dr Babita Ghai, delivered prestigious keynote address on “Back pain in India and South Asia” at 17thInternational Forum for Back and Neck Pain research organized by Neurosciences Research (NeuRA), Australia and she was the first and the only Indian to be invited for Keynote address on this forum.

Dr Ghai has conducted many funded (including ICMR, DST and PGIMER funded) and unfunded research in low back pain (LBP) as principal and co-investigators. She has around 150 International indexed publications out of which 30 are related to back pain.

She joined PGI in 2002. She has 22 years of post MD teaching and research experience with keen interest in pain management, pain education, & pain research and policy creation.

Dr Ghai holds numerous leadership roles and executive international& national positions. She is serving at “special IASP Presidential Task Force on Interdisciplinary Pain Treatment” as well as serving as “Developing Country Working Group (DCWG) member” of IASP. She also holds the position of treasurer of Pain education SIG of IASP and editor of Acute Pain SIG. Additionally, she is nominated editorial member of Pain Research Forum of IASP from 2018-2020. She has been active member of IASP since 2004. She has attended almost all the World Congresses on Pain since 2005. She is a board member of William Harvey European Executive Program in Neuromodulation (EEPIN) of Queens Mary University, London.

She has been invited international guest faculty to deliver talks at many international conferences including various World Congresses Pain at Japan, Bueno Aries and Boston, European federation on Pain (EFIC) congress at Denmark, two “Association of South East Asian Pain Society (ASEAPS) conference” at Myanmar and Malaysia and New York School of Regional Anesthesia World Anesthesia Congress (NWAC), Dubai

Dr Ghai is involved in national policy creations. She has several National and International awards to her credit including Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship at Queen Merry University, London. Dr Ghai is keenly involved in Pain research and is recipient of many intramural and extramural research grants including IASP grant “Developing Countries Project: Initiative for Improving Pain Education”. She has more than 150 internationally indexed publications and has authored several national and international book chapters.
