A Meeting to review the progress of Smart Metering roll out in U.Ts.

A Meeting to review the progress of Smart Metering roll out in U.Ts. was held under the Chairmanship of Union Home Secretary, GoI, through Video conferencing which was attended by Adviser to the Administrator, U.T., Finance Secretary, U.T. and the Chief Engineer-cum-Spl. Secy. (Engg.). The Union Home Secretary, GoI reviewed the progress of ongoing smart metering pilot project of Chandigarh consisting 26,000 consumers and the progress regarding implementation of Smart metering project for balance 1.84 lac consumers for Chandigarh City was also discussed. It has already been decided by the Govt. of India to implement the proposal of smart metering in Chandigarh in a time bound manner and the Chandigarh Administration will send the proposal to the Union Home Ministry, GoI, for appointment of project implementing agency for the same so that after appointment of agency work can be undertaken by the Chandigarh Administration. The implementation of Smart metering in Chandigarh will benefit in terms of reduction in Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses, load forecasting and improve the transperancy in the system. The consumers will also get the benefits in terms of error free billing, faster restoration of power outage and monitoring of consumption pattern by the consumers.
