A lecture session on “Plastic Free India” organised at Post Graduate Government College, Sector-46, Chandigarh

NSS Wing of Post Graduate Government College, Sector-46, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Hariawal Punjab (NGO), organised a lecture session on “Plastic Free India”. Padam Shri Anuradha Paudwal, famous Bollywood singer was the Chief  Guest, Mr. Kapil Setia, Chief Architect, Chandigarh, Mr. Ram Gopal, (Coordinator), Hariawal Punjab and Dr. K.P. Singh, former Chairperson and Director, Dept. of Geology, Panjab University, were the special guests . Prof. (Dr.) Abha Sudarshan, Principal, Post Graduate Govt. College, Sector-46, Chandigarh gave a floral welcome to the guests.

 

Ms. Anuradha Paudwal, Brand Ambassador, Hariawal, Punjab said that the plastic menace can be combated by door to door collection of one time use plastic and by installing plastic recycling machines in every sector of the city to recycle the collected plastic. She said that this would also create employment opportunities. She motivated the students to take concrete steps to stop the abuse of mother earth and make the planet liveable.

Mr. Ram Gopal, Coordinator, Hariawal Punjab talked about the work his organization is doing in tackling plastic pollution by planting more and more trees. He stressed the need to spread awareness to conserve water.

Mr. Kapil Setia, Chief Architect, Chandigarh highlighted the unique architecture of Chandigarh. He added that the architecture of Chandigarh is environment friendly which makes it the “City Beautiful. He urged the youth to be the ambassadors of change in making the planet plastic free.

Dr. K. P. Singh, former Chairperson of Dept. of Geology, Panjab University and an expert in water sciences, acquainted the students about the legal, technical and climatic aspects for creating a healthy environment which is a prerequisite for a good health. He also emphasised that reckless usage of water should be stopped.

Mr. Praveen Chaubey, NSS Incharge, Convenor of the programme alongwith his team of NSS Program officers, Dr. Ritu Sarsoha and Ms. Pooja Gupta and Mr. Arvinder Singh successfully organised the programme. Dr. Rajesh Kumar (Dean), Dr. Simmi Arora (Vice-Principal) were also present on the occasion. Dr. Mukesh Chauhan, Proposed the vote of thanks.
