7Days FDP Commences at PU
A seven days in-service Faculty Development Programme on the theme ‘Rethinking Dr Ambedkar’s Multi-Dimensional Vision’ being organized by the UGC Human Resource Development Centre in collaboration with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh was inaugurated today by Professor Veer Singh, Emeritus Professor, Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
In his inaugural address Professor Veer Singh highlighted the vision and ideology of Dr B.R. Ambedkar with special reference to social justice. He emphasised that maximum benefits of distribution of resources must go to the under previledged as part of social justice. He highlighted the similarity of ideas of Dr. Ambedkar and Dr. Amartya Sen. Professor Veer Singh asserted that it is our duty to give a concrete shape to Ambedkar’s vision and pointed out the relevance of his ideal of social justice for present times.
Professor S.K. Tomar, Director UGC HRDC welcomed the participants of the programme and highlighted the relevance of conducting the traning programme on Ambedkar’s ideas and visions in contemporary times.
Professor Sheena Pall, Coordinator of the programme and Coordinator of Dr B.R. Ambedkar Centre briefed the participants about the purpose of the FDP which is to widen the horizon and knowledge of the teachers and sensitizing them to existing biases. It would eradicate numerous maladies afflicting present Indian society, economy and polity and alleviate and empower the marginalized.
Around 26 participants coming from different higher education institutions from Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh are participating in the programme. They belong to different disciplines and backgrounds. These faculty members expressed their expections from the FDP and emphasised that civil society members specially teachers irrespective of their teaching disciplines should be aware of the lucid and relevant writing of Ambedkar for enriching their pedagogy in diverse classrooms across India.
The course will go on till 15th November, 2021 and eminent resource persons from all over India have been invited.
