City Forum holds conclave on role of all RWAs in the upcoming MC elections
On an initiative of city forum of welfare organizations (CFORWO), first time in the history of Chandigarh RWAs, an all RWAs meeting was held today at Community Centre Sector 44 to discuss and strategize roll of RWAs in the upcoming municipal elections. The meet conclave was attended by top office bearers of all known residents’ welfare apex bodies including FOSWAC, CHBRWF, GHRWF, CRAWFED, VOGHS, PU-RWA, Doctors-RWA, and Institutions-RWA apart from number of independents RWAs of the city.
Vinod Vashisht, Convener, CFORWO said that the meeting went very well where views & suggestions were put forth by representatives of all cluster resident welfare groups. Meeting was also attended by more than 60 RWAs of nearby sectors as well. The group was unanimous in noting that situation of civic delivery in Chandigarh has drastically deteriorated in the last one decade. Majority of councilors have failed to deliver as per residents’ expectations. “Next week we are going to start an online survey based upon research methodology with target respondents of 2500 people representing every 100th household of the city, to find out and share with residents top-10 performing councilors from the current MC house. If the need is felt, RWAs may also contest upcoming MC elections.”
Pankaj Gupta, Chief Spokesman, FOSWAC stressed the need of choosing educated, honest persons with good image in the city. He said that people should shun away petty party politics and only vote candidate on their face values.
Major DP Singh, Patron, CRAWFED said today’s initiative of coming together of all RWAs is going to act as a big pressure group and warning bells for local political parties. City is full of well aware and educated people, and more and more such people should come forward to contest elections.
Prof Nirmal Dutt, Chairman, CHBRWF said “Bureaucracy, MC, and RWA’s are the three power centres in the City; the RWA’s can become the most powerful tool of change, if people, rather than being PETITIONERS only, also become CAMPAIGNERS effectively showing STRENNGTH OF NUMBERS.”
MN Shukla, President of Voice of Group Housing Societies (VOGHS) said people of southern belt group housing societies are fed up from the non-residents people representatives who have time and again failed in solving their issues. “We are going to field our own candidates in upcoming MC elections in two wards represented by co-operative group housing” Shukla said.
Mritunjay Kumar, from PU-RWA and President, PUTA said “University residents from both sector 14 and 25 campuses were the most sufferers during covid lock down times as both councilors and bureaucrats often forget them as if we don’t exist at all. There is strong need to develop a strong city wide apolitical group like CFORWO and we are happy to get associated with it.”
Dyal Krishan, President of Dadumajra Joint Action Committee said all residents of dadumajra neighborhoods have already resolved not to vote such candidates who are not residing in their areas. They need to smell the pinch of air which we residents have been forced to breathe in unhealthy environment there.”
