PGI Cardiology department concludes 3 days conference on intra-coronary imaging and physiology

Continuing its journey as a global facilitator to the spread of medical science, the Department of Cardiology, PGIMER successfully hosted a 3-day educational program related to Intracoronary Imaging and Physiology in percutaneous coronary intervention.

The 4th annual conference of imaging and physiology in coronary intervention (IPCI 2021) was carried out through a virtual platform from 1-3rd October 2021. Prof Rajesh Vijayvergiya from the Department of Cardiology, PGI who organized the meeting as the course director commented that advances in the technology of coronary imaging such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) were thoroughly discussed by various national and international faculties in the meeting.

The scientific meeting was attended by 150 national and 18 international faculty members from across the globe. It was attended by more than 700 cardiologists from across the globe, including those from the USA, Australia, Europe, Japan, and the Asia Pacific.

Dr. Vijayvergiya commented that other than scientific lectures, the meeting also had a live in-box demonstration of cases describing the usage of intra-coronary imaging during coronary angioplasty, which was of great learning to attendees.  A dedicated 5 hours fellow’s course was also kept to demonstrate the basic principles and fundamentals of coronary imaging, which was attended by about 300 fellows/budding cardiologists.

Dr. Vijayvergiya commented that PGI being a reputed tertiary care and teaching institute of the country, always takes forward steps for spreading the knowledge and advances in the interventional cardiology community across the globe.  He also commented that the Department of cardiology, PGI does have all the latest technology and equipment available to deal with complex coronary interventions, which is at par with international standards and at the lowest/affordable cost.
