Poshan Maah Celebrated by Chandigarh Chapter of Indian Dietetic Association by planting sapling of Medicinal Plants
The Chandigarh Chapter of Indian Dietetic Association and Nutrition Society of India celebrated National Nutrition Month (Poshan Maah) on the theme Plantation activity in the form of Poshan Vatika at the space available in Govt. Model High School, Sector-12, Chandigarh on 6th September, 2021.
Ms. Sunita Malhotra Convenor IDA & NSI, Chandigarh Chapter, Chief Dietician and Head, Department of Dietetics PGIMER organized a plantation drive – Poshan Vatika by sapling different medicinal and kitchen garden plants like Amla, Guava, Mango, Tulsi, Bel tree, Giloy, Lemon, Curry leaves, ajwain etc. at the school premises. All the teachers of Govt. Model High School were present in this plantation drive and were apprised of nutritional value of medicinal plants planted there. Since the prevalence of malnutrition in school going children are very high in India, approximately 10 to 50 percent hence the plantation drive was organized to use the kitchen garden plants like curry leave, lemon, ajwain, tulsi while preparing mid-day meals at school kitchen for children.
Emphasizing the need to protect and conserve the environment, tree plantation is very important for the community and this initiative will go a long way in inculcating awareness among the students about environment conservation. I am happy to see the high enthusiasm exhibited by all our Dieticians and school Teachers who have joined the drive. Let us all pledge not only to plant trees but also nurture them.
