Prof Siddhartha Majumdar, Former Head of PGI’s Department of Experimental Medicine and Biotechnology passes away.
Prof Siddhartha Majumdar, former Head of the Department of Experimental Medicine & Biotechnology in PGI left us for his heavenly abode on Saturday (21-8-2021), in Chandigarh. Dr Majumdar was an iconic figure in the field of Clinical Biochemistry. He did his MBBS and DCH from Calcutta University before joining his stint at PGI where he was first student of MD (Biochemistry) in the Department of Biochemistry. He followed this with a PhD in Immunology and then joined as an Assistant Professor in Clinical Biochemistry followed by joining the Dept of Experimental Medicine and Biotechnology from where he rose to become the Prof. & Head of the Department.
He served the Institute tirelessly till his retirement in 2006. After retirement from PGI, he held many important posts such as the Vice Chancellor in West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata and Advisor, Medical education in Govt. of Tripura. He was the recipient of numerous awards including the prestigious B. C. Roy award in 1999. He chaired and was members of many scientific bodies under ICMR, DST and DBT. He motivated many students and young faculty members in medical research. He published more than 200 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals
A prayer meeting in the memory of noble soul will be held on 24th August 2021 (Tuesday) from 2-3 pm at Arya Samaj Mandir, Sector 16, Chandigarh.
