Chandigarh, 20th August, 2021: CREST (Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society), Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with Yuvsatta – an NGO organized ‘Akshay Urja Diwas’ Celebrations and Principals/Representatives of 112 Nos. of Government and Private Schools, where solar power plants have already been installed were awarded with Solar School Award.
Appreciating the efforts of all the Govt. & Private schools, Sh. Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), CREST and Director, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration said that with this combined efforts Chandigarh has been able to reach the solar installation of 45MWp. He further added that however, 60 private schools in Chandigarh have installed Solar Power Plants on their rooftop but most of the schools have just installed the SPV systems for fulfilling the mandate as per building bye-laws set by Chandigarh Administration which is minimum 5kWp or 5% of connected load whichever is lower and urged all the private schools to install Solar Power Plants by utilizing maximum space available with them under different business models available such as RESCO with Revenue Sharing Model, where schools can get Solar Power Plants installed without spending a single penny and earn lease rent for next 25 years. A presentation was also given on such business models available by Sh. Sukhwinder Singh Abrol, Project Director, CREST so that private schools can also earn revenue similar to the model being following by Govt. schools of Chandigarh by utilizing maximum space and thereby tapping the maximum potential available with them.
The representatives of two schools also made their presentation highlighting the benefits of the system.
All the Principals/Representatives of different schools were presented with mementos by Sh. Debendra Dalai, IFS, CEO, CREST, at a ceremony at CIHM, Sector-42, Chandigarh.
