President, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, Kumari Selja said that the BJP-JJP government of the state has been adopting various strategies to stop the students of the state from moving forward. The orders to fix the number of 11th and 12th students in government schools are also part of this strategy.
In a statement issued here today, Kumari Selja said that along with this, the government is now taking steps to promote privatization even in the government schools, which is very unfortunate. Failed to create new jobs, what good governance does the government talk about by handing over the future of youth to private hands in the name of jobs? Apart from this, she also cornered the government over the availability of only around 2.11 lakh seats in government and private colleges for undergraduate courses. She said that about five lakh students pass out every year in Haryana. Where these remaining three lakh children will go, she asked?
Kumari Selja said that the state government has decided to close the government schools having less than 20 students in class 11th and 12th science stream. The students of the schools which will be closed will be accommodated in other schools. That is, the distance of the new school from the existing school can be between 20-25 or even 30 kilometers. The students studying in government schools generally belong to poor families and they will not be able to travel this far everyday. Considering the safety of girls, many families may refrain from sending them to school. In such a situation, either these students will have to take admission in private schools or they will have to leave their studies, said Kumari Selja.
She said that the intention of the government is visible behind the closure of science stream from government schools so that children from rural areas could not make a career in the field of medical and engineering. Instead of closing these 450 schools, the government should make students aware of the science stream and tell them how to brighten their future by studying it.
Kumari Selja said that the decisions being taken by the Haryana government are completely anti-students. The government should reconsider its decision and take steps in the interest of the students. Instead of closing the schools with less number of students, the government should run a state-wide campaign for admission in science stream, so that the children of rural areas can also move forward by taking education in science subjects.
