75th Independence Day Celebrated at PU
The 75th Independence Day programme at Panjab University Chandigarh, began with unfurling of National Flag at PU Parade Ground by Prof Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh in presence of senior PU officials. Thereafter, PU VC was given guard of honour by three contingents of PU Security.
Addressing the gathering, PU VC extended his felicitations for the Independence Day and saluted the sacrifices of freedom fighters. While sharing the rich legacy of PU he urged all to join hands in equipping University to play a significant role as a key strategic player in fulfilling the dream of ‘Shikshit Bharat, Sashakt Bharat’. He further shared that because of the geo-strategic position of Panjab University, many research agencies are endeavouring to collaborate with PU.
In recent times, the University has expanded its influence by signing and maintaining more than 100 MoUs globally. He added that the University is prepared for any contemporary challenge through its research centers not just to work towards the development of technology but also to bring out policy drafts in terms of defence input, better utilization of natural resources and efficient coordination of community participation.
PU VC shared that, all concerted steps are being taken on improving its perception rate and societal engagements, which are integral part of various national and international rankings.
In order to strive for excellence, PU has extended facility of resource sharing to neighboring universities, research centers and industry. VC informed that in order to promote research activities, 260 computer desktops have been provided to the faculty for their smooth research work.
Also, University has become one among the first 05 universities in India to upload the data of about more than 30,000 students on NAD (National Academic Depository), he added.
PU has been winning prestigious MAKA trophy for second time in a row and also created history by winning the first position in 1st Khelo India University Games organized by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
PU VC concluded by saying that Panjab University will leave no stone unturned in the service of Resurgent Mother India who is destined to glorify the throne of Vishav Guru in times to come.
Earlier CA Vikram Nayyar, FDO and officiating Registrar, PU in his welcome address stressed that independence and responsibility go hand in hand to do the rightful things.
Due to covid protocol only University Anthem and patriotic songs were sung during the programme which concluded with the National Anthem.
Prof. Gurmeet Singh, Chairperson, Department of Hindi presented a vote of thanks for the event. Ms. Pankaj Mala, Department of Music anchored the programme.
The Independence Day ceremony at PU was attended by around 60 people, including Prof. V.R Sinha, Dean of University Instruction; Dr. Jagat Bhushan, Controller of Examination; PU; Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, Dean College Development Council, Prof. Vikram Singh Chaudhary, Chief of University Security, Prof. S. K. Tomar, Dean Student Welfare (DSW); and Prof. Meena Sharma, DSW (W) and University Officials, staff on duty and security personnel attended the function. Safety protocols were in place for the event, including social distancing and wearing of masks.
