Biomedical Instruments and Devices Hub, PGIMER conducts training for clinical and OT technicians
Chandigarh : August 4: An orientation cum training program organized at the calibration testing lab at Biomedical Instruments and Devices Hub (BID-Hub), PGIMER, concluded successfully.
The clinical and related staff OT technicians were trained regarding the safe use of medical devices in clinics, the relevance of periodic testing of medical devices in patient care. The OT technicians dealing with medical devices at their respective clinics at GMCH-32 and PGIMER attended the program. In view of the safety concerns during COVID-19, a total of 20 participants were allowed to take part in the physical orientation program.
The interactive session demonstrated how to use standard medical devices, precautions, Do’s and Don’t’s, and basic troubleshooting of various medical devices used in the OT, ICUs, and other clinics. Importantly, all the participants were made aware of finding issues and problems associated with the medical equipment, followed by hands-on training on testing various instruments for their functional testing and electrical safety. The attendee tested the in-use instruments at PGIMER andwas trained to perform calibration testing of equipment.
The fully functional lab at the Hub is currently doing in-house testing of different medical equipment types already in use at PGIMER clinics. Notably, the newly procured medical devices are also being subjected to BID-Hub’s in-house calibration testing center for their performance and safety evaluation.
This practice of testing the equipment before the procurement or installation in the hospitals ensures critical analysis of the medical equipment regarding
