Plantation Drive at GGDSD College to celebrate World Nature Conservation Day
A community extension activity in the form of tree plantation drive was conducted by the Environmental Society and Green Campus Committee of Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Chandigarh. The drive sponsored by State Bank of India, Chandigarh division was launched to create awareness among the students and general public about environment conservation as a part of World Nature Conservation Day celebrations. The dignitaries present on the occasion Mr. Rakesh Sharma, Regional Manager, RBO 4, UT, Chandigarh, Mr. Upkar K. Sharma, President, GGDSD College Society, Mr. Sanjeev, Relationship Officer of SBI and Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal of the college inaugurated the drive by planting saplings in the college campus. About 200 saplings of Tecoma, Palash, Gulmohar, Hibiscus and various flowering trees were planted in the campus and nearby areas as a part of green campaign. People were familiarized with the importance of these trees also. Speaking on the occasion, Principal, Dr. Ajay Sharma, stated that many such outreach drives will be conducted as part of sensitization program to increase green cover and generate a healthy oxygen rich environment in the City Beautiful.
