FDP on Re-engineering the Role of Teachers Commences

 

A seven-day online faculty development programme on the theme ‘Re-engineering the Role of Teachers as Mentors’ for faculty members of colleges and universities started today.

The course is organised by the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), Panjab University, and Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32-C, under the aegis of RUSA, UT, Chandigarh.

Prof. S. K. Tomar, Honorary Director, HRDC, PU inaugurated the event. He expanded on the term ‘Re-engineering’ and emphasised the need for it in today’s scenario. He said that the path to re-engineering is to unlearn, and relearn so that students can be appropriately motivated and guided. He remarked that better the students, better will be the quality of teaching. He congratulated and wished for a successful and fruitful FDP.

Sh. Upkar Krishan Sharma, President, GGDSD Management Committee, in his speech remarked that improving skill-set of teachers has been a primary goal of the institution and initiative to organise FDPs and other such skill development programmes are a step in that direction.

Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal, GGDSD College, Sector 32-C, thanked the UGC-HRDC, PU, Chandigarh, for collaborating in this FDP. He gave a euphonious colour to the definition of a mentor, calling him/her a ‘rehnuma’ and hoped to interact with the participants at a later date.

Dr. Tapan Sarker, who was the keynote speaker for the programme, discussed about alternative, creative and borderless thinking and the need to provide the context of pandemic to the present deliberations.

Dr. Ramajayam G, Scientist- C from NIMHANS, Karnataka, and Mr. Vinay Singh, Data Science Manager from Mannheim Business School, Germany took two technical sessions of the day. The FDP is co-ordinated by Dr. Monica Sachdeva, Department of Commerce, GGDSD College.
