Subject: Cheating/Fleecing of patients by private hospitals during Covid-19 Pandemic

The Covid-19 Pandemic has affected the whole country in the last 14 months. The misery of those getting the Covid infection has been doubled by the open fleecing and cheating of innocent patients and their families by private hospitals in Chandigarh in the name of treatment.
What is even more shocking is the fact that this cheating of the patients and their families is happening right under the nose of the concerned authorities/officials in Chandigarh who are supposed to curb any such thing. Media reports, on a daily basis, openly indicate that the private hospitals are over-charging and cheating patients and hospitalization bills are running into several lakhs of rupees.
How can the Chandigarh Administration allow this? This is not over charging. This is cheating and exploitation. Why is the administration and its officers looking the other way when this harassment and exploitation of people is happening?
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) demands that in such cases, the private hospitals and their management should be booked under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Disaster Management Act and the Drugs Control Act. This should be done immediately to send a clear signal to the private hospitals to desist from indulging in these illegal activities during such horrific times.
