Chandigarh, May 26 – Haryana Police has arrested a New Delhi resident for allegedly creating a fake website of Parivahan sewa and trying to dupe people seeking driving licence online.
Giving this information here today, a Haryana Police spokesperson informed that the incident came to light following a complaint lodged by a Hisar resident about payment of fee for a driving licence at https://e-parivahanindia.online. He approached the police when realized that he was duped.
He said that a man filed a complaint alleging that he visited a Parivahan sewa website on the internet, thinking it was the official website of the transport department to apply for a driving licence and pay the prescribed fee. He made a payment of Rs 1593 for driving licence on the fake website.
On receiving the complaint, a team of Cyber Crime started a probe and technical investigation led to the arrest of one suspect involved in the crime. The arrested accused has been identified as Kapil Kumar, a resident of Bhajanpura, Garhi Mandu, New Delhi.
During investigation, it was found that apart from Transport department, arrested accused had also created fake websites of Passport Department (https://passportseva.co/index) and some other authorities like https://www.edrivinglicenceindia.in, and http://eparivahan.online/index.php, to dupe people on the pretext of online services. It is also suspected that online fraud would have been done with others in the same way.
Accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act. Police suspect that arrested person had duped many gullible people through fake websites and many others can be a part of online fraud. Accused has been taken on remand for further interrogation. We are still investigating the case to see if anyone else was involved in this case, he added.
The spokesperson also appealed to the citizens to remain cautious and pay close attention while applying for any government services online.
