173 units of blood collected at Voluntary Donation Camp
International Thalassaemia Day is observed worldwide on 8th May 2021. On this day, Thalassaemic Charitable Trust (Regd.), Chandigarh organized its 215th Blood Donation Camp at PGIMER, Chandigarh. The Camp was conducted under strict COVID19 guide lines and restrictions. Prof(Dr) Jagat Ram, Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Shri Kumar Gaurav Dhawan, IRS, Deputy Director, PGIMER, Prof (Dr.) Amita Trehan and Prof (Dr) Suchet Sachdev blessed the Blood Donors in the camp. 173 units of blood were collected from respected blood donors. Shri Rakesh Kumar Rassila, Asstt. Sub Inspector, Chandigarh Police donated blood for 126th time in this camp. Director, PGIMER appreciated the efforts of the Trust in Blood Donation as there is acute shortage of blood in all Blood Banks of Chandigarh and surrounding due to COVID19.
Sh. Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary expressed deep gratitude to Director PGIMER, Deputy Director, PGIMER and faculty members for sparing their precious time to bless the blood donors. He also thanked Dr. Prof. Ratti Ram Sharma Head, Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine PGIMER, Chandigarh and his team for success of this camp in COVID19 pandemic and thanked all voluntary blood donors for the overwhelming response to the blood donation camp.
Thalassaemic Charitable Trust has successfully organised 30 Blood Donation Camps since June 2020 with cooperation of esteemed voluntary blood donors during COVID19 lockdown period.
Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder which induces chronic anemia. Regular Blood transfusion after 15-20 days is widely recommended treatment for maintaining optimal Hemoglobin level.
Thalassaemic Charitable Trust is organising blood donation camps and serving thalassaemics since 1985. Presently about 450 Thalasaemics are availing blood transfusion facilities in our two Day Care Centres in PGIMER & GMCH
Trust.
