Chandigarh.13th April,2021:Sh.V.P.Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & the Administrator, UTChandigarh released the book ‘TreeTreasure of Chandigarh’ in Punjab Raj Bhawan, today. This book has been published by theDepartment of Forest & Wildlife, UT Chandigarh and authored by Professor R.K.Kohli, Vice-Chancellor of Amity University, SAS Nagar, Sh.VikasKahol, Dr.Navdeep Kahol, Assistant Professor and Professor H.P.Singh. This book compiles the diverse avenuetrees of the city and also profiles a number of old and majestic heritagetrees. Onthis occasion, Hon’ble Governor appreciated the effortsof the Department and the Authors in completing this book which helps the peopleto develop a shared vision and understanding of the real treasure of the cityespecially the people of Chandigarh, who are traditionally nature lovers, wouldwhole-heartedly support and participate in the endeavour of the ForestDepartment in identifying and preserving the ecological wealth of Chandigarh. Speakingon the occasion, Shri Manoj Parida, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UTChandigarh congratulated the efforts of the Department and contribution made bythe Authors. He said efforts made in bringing out this book will go a long wayin creating awareness and attraction towards the preservation of trees of CityBeautiful. Shri DebendraDalai, IFS, CCF, Chandigarh informed that UT Chandigarh takes pride in having preservedabout 46% of the total area under forest and green cover. The City has preserved a large numberof trees so as to harmonize with the built-up surroundings. There are a numberof old and majestic trees in City Beautiful which serve as important green landmarks.These are the rare assets for any urban city. Further, this Book is a visual delight to all thetree lovers and provides useful information about the green wealth of the CityBeautiful. It is a matter of great pride that Chandigarh is knownas the ‘Greenest City of India’ owing to an abundance of greenery in the formof parks, gardens and green cover. Being a resident of this city, it is ourresponsibility to aware the general public to protect and conserve thesenatural resources.Amongthe prominent persons attending this event were Sh.Manoj Parida, IAS, Adviserto the Administrator, Sh.Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, UTChandigarh, Professor R.K.
