An online CME on “ANIMAL MODELS IN HEALTH AND DISEASE” was organized on 11th April,2021 by Advanced Small Animal Research Facility (ASARF) of PGIMER, Chandigarh to celebrate the completion of 10 years of this facility. Professor KK Talwar, graced the occasion as chief guest.
The ASARF at PGI is state of art facility for housing transgenic animal models and provision for carrying out metabolic and neurobehavioral studies. Recently, the Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) equipment was installed in collaboration with the Dept. of Radiodiagnosis to facilitate imaging studies in animals.
The focus of the CME was to update basic scientists and clinicians about the use of animal models for various diseases. There were lectures from various scientists from India and USA highlighting the use of animal models for neurological, cardiovascular and cancer research.
There was a panel discussion by the clinicians from different specialties describing their experiences with animal research and how it is going to help in patient care. Various investigators from PGI shared their research highlighting the development of various animal models. And finally, virtual tour of animal house facility was given to delegates. Nearly 150 delegates registered for this CME from different institutes.
