In an emergency meeting of office-bearers held virtually on 09/04/2021, under the
president-ship of Shri Hiranamaya Pandya, All India President of BMS due to a sharp 2nd
wave of COVID-19, BMS has decided to launch a nationwide awareness campaign. The fear
of lockdown and loss of livelihood, fuelled by rumours and misinformation, has already
started to loom large on the poor workers specially the migrants. Under these conditions
BMS will launch a nationwide campaign to spread health awareness and to reemphasise the
importance of wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing and sanitising properly. A lot
of misinformation regarding the Indian vaccine is going around, specially on social media.
BMS has decided to clear the air around it and motivate people to vaccinate themselves as
per government guidelines.
For this purpose BMS will approach both organised and unorganised sector workers. There
will separate camps organised for migrant workers to reduce the panic created by rumours
and misinformation. BMS strongly feels that in this hour of crisis brought about by the 2nd
wave, it is the migrant workers, unorganised sector workers, Mine workers, Tea-Garden
workers and Beedi Workers who are the most vulnerable and need society’s protection
more than anyone else and all social partners must come forward to protect the interests of
these people.
BMS has directed all its state units to prepare masks en masse and distribute it among all
sections of workers and other weaker sections of society. The Central Office has also
directed all its units to organise ‘Social Awareness Campaigns’ in association with local
medical departments while following COVID guidelines. BMS hereby appeals to all social
partners and the civil society to become part of this campaign and nip the 2nd wave in the
bud before it becomes a larger trouble.
