WORLD HEALTH DAY CELEBRATION ON 7TH APRIL 2021 PGIMER

World Health Day 2021 was celebrated by the Local Branch of Indian Public Health Association(IPHA), Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh in collaboration with World NCD Federation on the theme ‘Build a Fairer and healthier World’ on 7th April 2021.
Virtual Panel discussion was organised from 2.30 to 4pm. The program was inaugurated by Prof. Jagat Ram, Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh. In his inaugural address he emphasized on the health equity and its determinants. He said that COVID-19 has proven instrumental in highlighting inequalities in healthcare, even in higher-income countries where those from more deprived areas have been hardest hit by the virus.
Prof Amarjeet Singh, President, IPHA local branch, PGIMER, Chandigarh in his address mentioned about the Salam Namaste initiative by the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health which is recommending Indian way of greeting. It is especially useful during COVID pandemic where people do not want to shake hands.
Prof JS Thakur, Vice president, IPHA local branch, PGIMER, Chandigarh and President World NCD Federation delivered the keynote address and emphasised on Building a healthier World. He also mentioned many initiatives taken by the department and World NCD Federation.
Panel discussion was chaired by Prof JS Thakur and the panellist were Dr Shankar Prinja, Additional Professor , Department of community medicine and school of public health , Dr Karobi Das , Officiating Principal, NINE, PGIMER, Chandigarh, Dr Sushma Saini, Lecturer, NINE, Dr Kavita, Lecturer,NINE and secretary, Local branch,IPHA. They discussed various aspects of health equity in the panel discussion. Approximately 300 participants attended the program.
