Patients arriving at any of the Emergencies of PGIMER, Chandigarh are attended to and provided medical care irrespective of their state of domicile. In fact the annual census of PGIMER for the year 2020 depicted in Table 1. clearly shows that PGIMER provides tertiary level medical care from more than 5 states of India with proportion of Punjab being highest.
PGIMER admits only severe and critically ill covid patients in the NHE Covid Block. Presently 50% of the total 166 patients admitted at PGIMER, which constitute 83 patients, belongs to state of Punjab. All the ICU beds in the Covid Block are full and 50% of these are occupied by patients from Punjab.
