2nd National workshop on “Application of Flow cytometry in Pharmacology and Drug discovery” was successfully organized virtually in the experimental Pharmacology laboratory of Prof. Bikash Medhi, Department of Pharmacology, PGIMER Chandigarh on Day 26th March 2021 under the aegis of Medical Pharmacological Society (MPS).
Main focus of the workshop was to train the medical fraternity about importance of flow cytometry in translational research and drug discovery. More than 100 delegates from different states of India attended the workshop. The conference started with welcome address by Prof. Bikash Medhi and inaugural speech by Dr Shivamurthy (President MPS). Official video inauguration of the conference was done in the presence of Chief guest Dr. Mukesh Kumar (Scientist G, ICMR), Guest of honour Dr. P.L. Sahu (Scientific Director, NDTL) and Dr Ajay Prakash. Dr Ajay Prakash, Assistant Professor, Department of pharmacology, PGIMER welcomed the gathering and briefed the programme.
Scientific session of the workshop was started by the lecture of Prof. Bikash Medhi on GLP and GCLP, followed by lecture of Dr. Ashvinder Raina (PGIMER) on Basics and Principles of Flow Cytometry, Dr. Badri Narayan (Thermo Fisher Scientific) on Flow Cytometry in Drug Discovery and Detection of rare events by flow cytometry: Importance in drug discovery. Further theoretical and video demonstration of flowcytometry techniques (Cell cycle analysis, cell death and differentiation 1: Apoptosis by Annexin V staining, Identification of Reactive Oxygen Species by Flow Cytometry, Intra cellular proteins expression, Cell response analysis by flow cytometry: Intracellular cytokine assay) was covered by EPL members, under the supervision of organising secretary Dr Subodh Kumar and organizing members Dr Phulen Sharma, Dr Seema Bansal, Dr Rupa Joshi, Dr. Saurabh, Dr. Gurjeet. At the end, Dr. Ajay Prakash presented the report of the workshop and taken feedback from the participants. The workshop ended with vote of thanks by Dr Subodh Kumar.
