Chandigarh, March 25 – A joint conference of senior police officers from Haryana, Punjab and Union Territory of Chandigarh was held at Panchkula to discuss various issues and challenges to tackle the organized crime in the region.
The conference was jointly presided over by DGP Haryana Sh. Manoj Yadava and DGP Punjab Sh. Dinkar Gupta which was also attended by senior functionaries of Chandigarh Police, where it was emphasized to create an institutional mechanism to effectively coordinate, create common database and real time sharing of information to curb organized crime.
The conference was attended by Director General of Police Crime Haryana Sh. Mohd. Akil, ADGP (Law & Order) Haryana Sh Navdeep Singh Virk, IGP STF Haryana, Sh. Amitabh Dhillon, CP Panchkula Sh. Saurabh Singh, DIG STF Haryana Sh. Sateesh Balan, ADGP (Internal Security, Punjab) Sh. RN Dhoke, DIG Chandigarh Sh. Omvir Singh, SSP Chandigarh, Sh. Kuldeep Singh Chahal, DCP Panchkula, Sh. Mohit Handa and other senior police officers from Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh.
Speaking on this occasion, DGP Haryana Sh. Manoj Yadava said that holding such coordination meetings would certainly be helpful in keeping tabs on criminal activity of interstate gangsters, detection of crime and more importantly sharing of information in real time. He suggested that telephone numbers of police officials at all levels should also be shared in making better coordination and strategies to prevent and detect inter-state crime. He also underlined how the use of social media platforms by dreaded gangsters and their hideouts in foreign countries is a challenge to nab them.
In his opening address, DGP Punjab Sh. Dinkar Gupta thanked his Haryana counterpart for hoisting and organizing inter-state conference on such a topic of serious nature. We should create a system where any information pertaining to organized crime could be shared immediately to nab such criminals. He also expressed views on a number of possible areas for action in this direction.
In the meeting, a lot of emphasis was laid on joint strategies for sharing real time information to combat organized crime. This would go a long way in increasing mutual coordination amongst the police of the region. On the basis of this strategy, an action plan would be prepared which would set out concrete measures to achieve these priorities.
The officers also discussed the activities of inter-state criminal gangs and exchange their details.
