Leadership and Planning discussed on second day of 8th International Public Health Management Development Programme

Day 2 of the 5 day 8th International Public Health Management Development Program started with a session about the Leadership models in healthcare by Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, Ex Director, IIHMR, New Delhi. He focused his talk on the various theories of leadership and explained the six leadership styles by Daniel Goleman. He emphasised the three domains of leadership model; self, team and organisational and External environment plays a significant role in leadership development. This was followed by the session on leadership skills by Dr. Sonu, Professor and Program Director of the course. He discussed the skills for pursuit of promoting public health action which ultimately strong foundation for decision making, resource allocation and prioritization. Taking day-to-day examples and case scenarios of the health sector was discussed with the participants of 33 countries.
Second half of the session was taken by Dr Sonu Goel. He explained planning concepts and emphasised that the managers need to plan if their firms are to succeed in the longer term as a plan establishes a direction and helps sharpen its focus in order to get there. Dr Madhu Gupta, Professor, PGIMER deliberated the talk on the various tools of planning emphasizing on logical framework approach, an aanalytical tool for improving the quality of programs/projects by objective oriented project planning. She taught the participants through interactive case studies and examples from the health sector.
Various interactive learning methods like case scenarios, management games, and energizer’s were incorporated between the sessions. A special Yoga session was also organized virtually for the participants. Delegates of 33 countries were enthused throughout as they related the case scenarios with settings of their countries.
